Why Vaccination Of Dogs And Cats Is Important

Vaccines are designed to prevent sickness caused by the diseases that your pet is most likely to encounter during their lifetime. Many of the diseases that are common in pets can also be transmitted to humans and to other animals. They can cause illness and disability and even death. Treating a disease once it is present is often more costly than preventing it with the vaccination of dogs and cats. Vaccinations are a safe, and affordable, investment in the health of your pet.

The Vaccination Schedule

The vaccination of both dogs and cats is completed in stages over a period of time, with the first shots usually administered at between six to eight weeks of age for both cats and dogs. Then they’ll receive booster shots every three to four weeks until they are fully vaccinated. They may also need an annual booster shot.

The law requires rabies vaccination for both dogs and cats starting at between 14 to 16 weeks of age and then again in one year. After the initial vaccinations, they may receive the rabies booster every three years.
